What Our Customers Say:
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a natural mineral fibre which has been used for many years in lots different materials. Asbestos is resistant to heat, it does not conduct electricity, it is strong/hard wearing, resistant to chemicals and was cheap to produce.
Because of these properties, asbestos can be found in:
- Old cement products (like roof sheets and water tanks, even old flower pots)
- Pipe insulation
- Floor tiles and stair nosing
- Panels lining doors or behind/near boilers
- Old fire-breaks in ceiling voids
- Ropes and textiles (in electrical fuse boxes)
However, asbestos can be very dangerous, especially when asbestos fibres are released into the air and breathed into the lungs. It can cause some known serious health conditions, such as asbestosis and lung cancer.
